Blackmail? I'm sorry, I don't get what you're getting at. Aikonia is free to read, we are not blackmailing anyone. We just took this week to post a fun page that explained how Patreon works since we put so much work into the Patreon and into the comic, which you can read free of charge.
If you actually took the time to read the Patreon, you would have seen the line that states "No matter what, Aikonia will always remain free to read online." We're going back to our regularly scheduled story pages on Monday. I suggest you stop reading Aikonia if you consider us taking just one week to post a comic that explains how our readers can support us, after over 5 years of posting comics 100% free of charge, to be blackmail. Really, Andrew? You've commented twice on this, both being rather crappy replies to negative feedback to the patreon sell comic. I'm sure you were hoping that it would be taken as a tongue-in-cheek joke which would help to advertise your patreon a little, I think it's safe to say it didn't work. It happens. But dismissing feedback and telling people that they should stop reading the comic because they disagree with this page is ridiculous and makes you appear like a petulant child.
Aikonia has been going for a good few years now and you deserve a pat on the back for that. I was here at the beginning (as a result of Katie) and have followed each page from the very first. I remember that this was originally meant to be a short webcomic to give a background story to a game you were going to release. 5 years later and I'm still wondering what happened to the game. Times are tough right now for us at Aikonia. Week after week, it seems that commenters only have negative things to say about the comic. Is that partially our fault? Perhaps. We certainly aren't perfect. But I think you can understand that as we face this seemingly never-ending wave of negativity, we are wont to get a bit snappish when we feel like we're being attacked. Blackmail is a pretty harsh term to use for a silly comic letting our readers know about our Patreon.
For some understanding of what happened to the game, you need only look at the other four odd games MADSOFT Games is currently developing. Aikonia's own title got pushed back to make way for other projects. That's not to say it will never see the light of day, just that it isn't our focus right now. I'm sorry, but ever since Katie's departure, we've been getting more and more negative comments. All of them boiling down to "The art sucks." "I wish Katie was still here.", and "The story sucks." And, while I'm working towards resolving those issues, it's becoming harder and harder to keep thinking positively.
Years of dealing with a non-stop stream of negative comments really gets to you after a while and I've reached the point where I just want to say "I get it. You don't like the comic anymore. Please stop commenting about it. If all you're going to do is complain about it on every page, then why are you even still reading?"
It's just really hard to work towards improving the comic when all you get is negativity. Posted on January 8th, 2016 at 06:45PM

To the negative commenters, give them a break. One advertising page is not a crime. Chill your faces. If you dont like it, move on. Plenty of other things on the net to spend your time on. Dont get hung up sticking around just to remind yourself how much you can't deal with change.
To Andrew, I get it. Its frusterating. Still gotta stay chipper because the dicks are still gonna be dicks and if you get all aggravated in text you are just gonna turn the fence sitters away.
As for me, I check back regularly but for some reason I'm not engaged any more. Whether its the story, the frequency, the art. Can't really say exactly why. Just a general feeling. Posted on January 9th, 2016 at 02:44PM

I've been reading Aikonia since pretty much the beginning when I discovered it through Awkward Zombie, and other than AZ it's the only webcomic I read that I'm really excited to see the next page every week, whether it be part of the story or even side pages like one of these. I've never commented up until this point because I've been just enjoying it silently like I'm sure a lot of other people do.
It really saddens me that the negativity is getting to the team, and I'm also bummed out that I don't have any means to monetarily support the comic at this point in time. Believe me, I would in a heartbeat because I do love this comic and want to see the story unfold further. Honestly even though I loved the comic while Katie was on board, I'm loving it even more now. I do love Katie's art and the first section of the story with the school and Ariel, but sometimes I had a bit of a hard time taking it seriously in her art style because I'm used to the shenanigans of AZ. I really do prefer the art now, with both Ira and Karina crafting such lush and colorful pages each week. And I really enjoyed this page, bloody rabbit stew and all, because even a Patreon special can show the amount of development and love put into the characters. Can't wait to see more of the journey.
Sorry to write such a novel, but I suppose I'm unintentionally making up for being quiet for these past years. Perhaps I'll attempt commenting more often in the future, hopefully in a less wordy fashion. ^^; All I can offer at the moment is this message of support. Keep your chins up guys, because there's no pleasing everyone but you're certainly making plenty of readers happy with what you're doing, I'm sure. :) Posted on January 9th, 2016 at 08:12PM

I hopped into the comments section expecting to see more people like me in the "would love to support artists but have no money" boat, but instead found a bunch of needless hostility. Oh internet comments, you can only be you.
Anyway, I just wanted to say I too have been quietly reading the comic from the beginning and just wanted to offer my support as well. Don't let the naysayers get you down; you do have fans and I for one am interested to see where the story is headed. Keep up the good work! Posted on January 10th, 2016 at 11:30PM

Thanks so much for your support and kind words, it's appreciated so very much by both the team, and myself personally! With multiple negative comments here, I honestly was beginning to think that my -- and Malleck's -- sometimes dark sense of humor had somehow gone extinct, so it's reassuring to know that isn't the case.
Character development is one of my favorite things there is, so I really wanted to take this opportunity to share some of that with our readers when I crafted the context/interactions for this page based on Corina's script. And to me, preparing a meal together is an excellent way of doing that~ Posted on January 11th, 2016 at 06:26PM

I would like to second (well, fourth) that motion - I too have been reading your comic since it started (yet another case of finding it via Awkward Zombie), and have always thoroughly enjoyed it - I've not got a single negative thing to say about it, it's really good fun, and really pretty! Thanks so much for making it - always brightens up my work week :)
I know it's much easier said than done (and in any case, you're far more civil with them than I ever am), but do remember that comments sections are massively skewed towards morons and crazies - the vast majority of people just come along happy, read a comic, and move on still happy, without saying a thing!
