Looks like only mages were affected and the demon dog bears were melting, either something happened to their magic or the source of it. Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 03:04AM Reply

Nothing happened to the "magic source", the students have been released from Magickademon's control and either it hurts or they are writhing in guilt, and the dogs were all summoned by Magickademon and so are melting as Magickademon is now dead. Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 01:32PM

And thus, without even having to fully draw his sword, our hero, and defender of the realm Sir Bowlcut, defeated the entire magi uprising; protecting Aikonia from their vicious plot of furthering the worlds' knowledge on the sciences, as well as the importation of exotic species from foreign sources, namely the canis volaticus viride familiaris.

Well done noble knight, and shall a complement of light aligned beings with skills in war from a religion of your choosing protect you on your travels. Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 05:39AM Reply

I'm pretty sure that science wasn't being furthered. More advanced science was being used, but that's very different. Posted on May 14th, 2013 at 09:20PM

MattxAus replied:
they did plane-breaking sci-magic and created a portal to the other realm. id say that is furthering science just a little bit. Posted on May 14th, 2013 at 10:40PM

God, why is the settinng so crappy? Not only are the people in charge incompetently prejudiced against magic rather than realizing it is something that should be well-researched and treated with care, that guy was going to MURDER CHILDRENjust because they were related to the incident. the "current" magic system in Aikonia (channellers drawing power from across the veil) is still relatively new(ly mainstream), within like oh... 15-30 years (judging from Ariel as a girl to now) - the previous main form of magic was life magic, which as explained before, required the deaths of innocents to function. youd be overly cautious of anything with the word "magic" stuck on it, in that case. its just discrimination based on previously bad experiences, no matter how thinly connected.

tl;dr - he is just discriminating against mages on somewhat past-emotional, not forward thinking logical grounds. Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 06:30AM

WHAT!? within 15-30 years? the very first few pages of Aikonia makes it seem like magic in general (life or not life) has been around for hundreds of years and used in many wars on both sides.

You're right, the second page states 'many a war was fought and won with the Council's help', with which I saw no problem having taken place within thirty or so years, but it then goes on to say 'peace has reigned in the land for generations', with heavy implication that this is due to the Council's practice of safe magic. Still, that's not to say everybody has now had sufficient time to settle down and trust the mages. Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 08:47AM

MattxAus replied:
in the past like 20 pages, they had explained that the magic academy was pretty new, offering life magi the chance to learn the newly found "safer" alternative. one of those magi was ariel, as a child - born into a village of life magi.

sure, magic could have been around for a long long time, but the magic as we know it seems to have been highly uncommon, if not entirely rare, in its infancy stages.

as for "settling down", people are naturally quick to hate, but slow to trust. think about all the things you dont trust, but have had plenty of time to get somewhat used to. zombies. nazis. dane cook the comedian... Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 12:06PM

Still, I think the key point is Cyril's statement that, apparently due to the practice of contemporary magic, the kingdom has known peace for generations.
At least, as their recorded history would have it. Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 08:05PM

MattxAus replied:
You can still have peace whilst there are huge underlying tensions. Perfect example is North Korea - currently world is faaaaairly peaceful, but it could potentially go south, fast. Posted on May 14th, 2013 at 12:58AM

I know, what I'm saying is that the second strip implies the Council has practiced arcane magic for 'generations'. Posted on May 14th, 2013 at 02:24PM

Loved the page for the most part, save for that final panel. The Garfield-esque "I hate Mondays" kind of comment and the soldier's expression kind of ruined the drama of the situation.... Posted on May 13th, 2013 at 02:24PM Reply

Is that supposed to be Arwel in the bottom right box in panel four? Or is that just somebody who has Arwel's hair but is a caster instead of a channeller? It's always difficult to identify unconscious people. Posted on May 14th, 2013 at 12:17AM Reply
