I'd say that's highly unlikely. You see, the council was unaware of the situation, so if Solaris had known before he would have pulled off the stunt that killed Syd much, much earlier.
I believe that monster we see at the beginning came from the other plane, the plane of magic. Considering that the first mage we saw at the start is correct, the barrier between the plane of magic and reality is weakening, so the monster could have simply wandered from that plane to the other. Meaning that monster happened as naturally as a rainstorm can happen.
