Meeting with Mar

Hey everyone!
Sorry for the late blurb entry! Although, we do have valid reasons for the delay, we were making some final tweaks to the brand new official "Project: Velyria" homepage and we wanted to make sure everything was ready before we announced it here :)
We also needed some extra time to decide which entry would win the contest. We loved all of the work you've submitted, and you're all very awesome for even participating in the first place! We felt bad picking a single one, so we decided to also have three runners-up! The winner will receive the print, as well as a pdf file containing artwork, sketches, and Cyril's original expedition report! Unfortunately, we can't send a print to the runners-up, but you will be receiving a copy of the pdf file as well :)
So, here we go, the winner is...Bowee the Cat for Shadows That We Are!
And the runners-up are FiliaFlammae for Aikonia Poster, Cerulean Fox for Ariel and, Cayys for Ariel as well! Good job everyone, and we'll be getting in contact with you shortly!

I'd like to take this opportunity to also discuss some of the features I'm building for the site. First, I'm doing some changes to the comment system. Those include a captcha field to avoid spambots, comment rss feeds, an optional automated email system that sends you an email when someone replies to your comment, flagging comments as spam, liking/disliking comments, and a few more I can't really discuss yet.
We're also planning on adding some more interactive features, which will allow you to get one extra page posted per week! We'll discuss this a little further next week, along with another big announcement we'll have for you then.

Evil is subjective really. I find that Solaris is the good guy and Sid was a meddling evildoer trying to overthrow the order of magic by investigating stuff against his bosses orders. Seeing how Mar is involved, I'm assuming that then Enceleadus and Mar are working together, and with Cyril possibly after these events. This would mean their enemies are Callisto, Deimos, Solaris and Ariel. I'm imagining that Syd and Ariel (before the Cerulean lab part un happens) partook a neutral or simply ignorant role.

Wouldn't this mean that mages can come back from the dead? How do you kill something that's dead? Will it just 'respawn' in the magic realm or be a dead-undead? Could Solaris actually be a good guy trying to stop a possible plague of evil invincible vengeful magic ghosts who could control the world, but doesn't want people to know because they'd want their loved ones back and that could onset the very apocalypse he's trying to prevent?

If this is true, I hope everyone feels appropriately guilty for bad-mouthing him so much in the comments. He could very well be saving civilization from destruction and HAS to be a prat about it due to the magnitude of the threat. Posted on February 22nd, 2011 at 03:36PM Reply

Curious. When I first saw Mar, I thought she was going to be a villain. Is Cyril baring his arm to the guard in the first panel as some sort of identification method? Sort of like presenting your ID card?

It's nice to see Mar on the good side. I initially (as many others did, I imagine) suspected her to be the evil type, but it's interesting to think about her grudge against Solaris and the whole let's-find-out-what-happened-to-Syd thing as a "common enemy" sort of deal.
